Gluing Redwood

I am now to the point where I want to start building my egg table.   The EggCrate is done.
I was going to use REDWOOD until I see the HASSLE it is to glue.   Really?    Use Acetone, let it dry, than a PRIMER followed by a resorcinol or epoxy glue?   Are you joking?
     
What other appearance wood could I use?   Cedar?      The EGG is an XL, so strength is important.       
Anybody with experience please chime in.
