Been a long day of welding and grinding but she's almost ready. All thats left is to weld in the expanded metal shelves, finish grinding the nest, and paint her black.

So far i've got about $300 invested and i'm sure it would be a $1000+ wagon to buy retail....

Finished up welding and grinding the "EGG WAGON" this evening and slapped a coat of gloss black paint on her...

Also did a little Pre-Egg shopping to stock up on some "Egg-ccessories" prior to picking up the egg next friday. Made a trip to the Ceramic Grill Store in Denton, TX and picked up a few "Egg-ssentials". Also picked up quite a bit of info on the AR vs. the Woo. Will be headed back to pick up one or the other next weekend....still undecided.

I got Large BGE about 2 weeks ago and last Saturday i was cooking and decided to build a table. on Sunday mid day i ran over to my local landscape yard (that i currently work at) and picked up a few things and this is what i came up with in about 5 hours. the granite had to be done during the week after i had the base and the door work done.

Took me a while to find some decent cedar where I live but finally found some. Table is all cedar with stainless steel screws and nails.
Thanks to this forum for all the table/cabinet post that encouraged me to build my own.

Finish hits Year 2 -- Doing Great -- Looks Even Better in Wide Angle

Promised to do periodic updates on the finish we used on our table -- 2 epoxy coatings first, 5 or 6 coats of UV protective varnish on top of that. Now at year 2, can't complain. Still glistens:

BTW, photos taken with my killer anamorphic wide angle, near distortion free lens. Check out the same angle using standard iPhone 7+ lens:

XL table nest on wood table

Planning on putting the XL egg into a cedar table, and am wondering if all that you need is the XL table nest directly onto the wood, or do you need a paver stone on the wood and then the nest? TIA

Anyone designed/built a wood only table? No screws, nails, or glue.

I've been thinking about doing a wood only construction of a table for my XL BGE.  Has anyone already done this?  Given the level of craftsmanship I've seen in some of these builds, I'm suspecting the answer is yes. But I can't seem to find an example.

It's all about having fun with the mini.

Starts out as a knock-down for transportation.

Assembly is a pleasure, I just tap in the wood 'keys'. This joinery is keeping with the Arts & Crafts Style of furniture.

All done, mini ready to be fired up.

Table Question

I am building out an outdoor kitchen using steel studs and cement board (BBQ Coach system), so there aren't really any combustible components (i.e. no wood).

At my own fault, I put together the BBQ coach egg module to be at a 12 inch height from the shelf to the top, rather than 15 to 17 inches for the large Egg. I can make some modifications to get it to maybe 13.5 to 14 inches, but I already have a drawer installed underneath, so can't get much further. Anyone see any issues with this shelf height besides the Egg sitting a bit higher than optimal?

Also, I know most folks recommend the Nest and then even potentially firebricks or pavers underneath that. For my scenario, since there are no combustible components and I need to raise the GBE enough to have a small airgap, but don't want to raise it too much, I was thinking of putting a stainless steel sheet (heavy gauge) over the cement board and then using the ceramic feet instead of the Nest. What are your thoughts on this? Neither the cement board or the stainless steel are combustible and there would be an approximate 3/4" airgap.

Egg table in France

Hi everyone - first post here.

First i wanted to thank everyone for posting their table stories, these are really helpful.
I wanted to share my experience building a LBGE table in France.
All the plans i found online use imperial measurements and american lumber standards ... which are pretty useless in good old Europe :)

I got inspiration from 2 templates : naked whiz and scott moore, keeping in mind the official BGE table build recommendations.
However both of these had minor details i didnt like so i went ahead and made a mash up of the 2.
I then visited a local lumberyard to find out what i could get that would be close enough to the measurements. They had some nice french oak, in planks of 120x21 and in various lengths, as well as small beams ("carrelet") that could be engineered to my size requirements, so i reworked the plans to use this size only.
I used standard hand truck wheels (260mm diameter, 20mm axle bearing) and made an assembly of stainless steel tube, threaded rod, washers and nuts for the axle. Any DIY shop will stock these.
Wood was treated with an oil-like product for weatherproofing.
Due to time constraints, I couldnt make a stone insert in the worktop :( I also decided not to do a fire brick layer under the egg given i'm using the nest.

I'll try to make my plans in a readable format and upload here.

In French : Table pour Big Green Egg large
Planches de chene 120x21
Carrelet en chene, 90x90
Roues 260mm
Tube acier 20mm, tige filetee, rondelles et ecrou pour l'axe (en inox ; Leroy Merlin ou tout autre magasin de bricolage)
Traitement du bois avec un saturateur, 2 couches

Finished result
(egg nest delivery was delayed so i used 2 leftover cuts to make a temporary air gap, it has since been fitted properly with the official nest)

I have the opportunity to purchase a used 54" torch table with pull out drawers for a Large Egg and was curious to the value of it. The table is approx two years old but looks to be in great shape and is a standard color. I know the new cost of them but finding one on Craigslist was a surprise.

Here is my new table. It is all 304 stainless steel and Its 32"x70"x34.5"h.  I decided on a U shape in the back for easy loading of the egg and so the egg would sit lower in the table.
