After reading through the forum I decided to build a table for my eggs.  It is wood with a concrete counter top.  I still plan on adding a fold up shelf on each side.  A woman at work made a custom cover for me out of Sunbrella material.  I have attached some pictures.

Hello all, just wanted to say thanks for all the great info on this site and well, I wanted to show off my new grilling station. It was just finished last week and while I didn't build it myself, I'm super proud of it.

they went all secret squirrel on me and stole my handwritten plans on the table i was planning to build myself and surprised me with it for xmas.   the bricks under the table could have used some sand but this is only a temporary solution.  also worth noting my father in law is 76 and built this by himself.  i swear he gets around better than most i know and rarely misses a day at the gym and still works for fun

Egg and Grill Table Design

Does anyone have a design for a table to house both my 15 year old Large Egg and a new grill (that would be at least the fourth grill that my Egg has outlasted:)?  I have space for either a twelve foot table or an L shaped.  I previously built the Naked Whiz Table.  But, after three moves and 10+ years, it is time for a replacement.

Potlifter for the XL - Good Suggestion

We are having our deck power-washed and stained right now and had to move everything off of it.  The MBGE went through my sliding glass doorway and into my 4-season's room, but the XL wouldn't fit and needed to find its way into my garage.  As many on here have suggested, the Potlifter does indeed work fro the XL.  It is a tight fit, but it did work.  My friend and I lifted it out of the nest, and had to carry it 40 - 45 yards or so.  Both of us in our 40's and we do work out, but it was still a strain to carry it that far.  But .... it did work =) .  Thanks everyone for the suggestion!!!  Cheap and effective:

Cedar and concrete table almost done

Well, it took much longer than anticipated, but my egg table is just about finished. The design was inspired by some of awesome looking tables on this forum. I went with all cedar for the base with PT pine on the floor of the table. For the top I originally thought about a granite slab, but ultimately decided to try and pour a 1.5" thick concrete top. It saved me some money and I am really happy with how it turned out for my first attempt at pouring concrete. The only thing left to do is seal the cedar, build the cabinet doors, and install the hardware. Should be 100% done soon. Here's some pictures:

The start of the base with all pocket joints. The frame that supports the egg has all mortise and tenon joints.

The base with sides and floor installed

Back of the base

Drawer for grates, tools, etc.

Top formed and ready for concrete

Top poured

Top out of the mold and pin holes filled. Ready for polishing

After polishing. The top is still drying here which is why it's different colors

My egg finally has a proper home!

And of course a GT bottle opener

XL Table build with concrete top

Hello,

This is my first post here on the BGE forum. I have been lurking around on the site over the past year since purchasing my XL BGE. Currently, I have been using the nest that I purchased with my egg, but need some counter top space and room to store my place setter, pizza stone, and all other grilling accessories. So after much research on this site, I drew up a table plan which includes two doors, a center drawer, and a concrete counter top. I have been working on the table for the past few weeks and am about 90% finished with it. I still have to make the drawer, polish the concrete top and nest for the egg, add hardware, and seal the Brazilian teak decking.

The plan

BGE - On Concrete Pedestal with or without feet

Just bought a BGE XL and built a 24 x 24 x 22 concrete block if you will to set the egg on.  I didn't use the ceramic feet and just set my Egg right on the concrete.   Eventually, I plan to wrap the pedestal in stone and use the same counter top as my other grill.  I hear a lot of people saying I need feet...., but is that just because they are using wood stands?

This has been on the list of To Do's for a couple of years now. Since putting the rock around all the poles on the patio, I haven't wanted lay hands on that stone again. But I think i'm finally in the frame of mind to get it done. Here's a few pics of what I've done so far.

Steel frame

Durock completed
Last Saturday I went whole hog and got the stone on in one day.

I partied/celebrated Saturday night, so I wasn't in much shape to get anything done on Sunday. Getting waaay too old do work this hard.
This coming weekend I'm going to start putting the rough cedar on the front. Will post a few pics as I go.
Thanks for looking. Happy cooking.

Need Advice Between Closed and Open For Egg

Hey Guys,

I am in the final steps of having my outdoor kitchen built, they are starting to build the structure this week for the grill, egg, drawers, fridge etc. I am still at the point where I can customize how the egg will sit in the counter.

I have a large egg, I have been googling pictures for ideas and it seems to be a mix of people having their eggs with the counter surrounding the top and then also people having the egg fully exposed. I am assuming having the counter around the top of the egg is a lot more secure? Is that the logic behind that do you think? Or is it an aesthetic thing?

I am of two minds of what to do, I prefer it sitting without the counter. But I have kids and think the other way is a lot safer by the looks of it

Also does anyone have any specs of how much clearance I need at the back, sides etc. I read that I should have a little bit of clearance at the bottom of the egg, but I haven't been able to find much about it..

I want to make sure I am doing this right!!

Thanks for all the help!

New XL BGE, new to the community

Was just lucky enough to get my first BGE in the form of this XL. Also new to the BGE community!!

I read about the breaking in process, and also read some learning curve horror stories, so I did a test burn last night. I was extremely happy to say, I was able to keep it within 300 - 350 degrees pretty easily for a few hours. I am going to try some chicken tonight!!

Of course, have to have the pic of it nice and clean!!

Modular Nest Puchase

I finally decided to buy the two unit modular nest, and, expect delivery from Atlanta to CVille on Friday May 18.  This will replace my 15 year old table, after 4 moves.  Hopefully, my large egg will like it’s new home for another 15 years.

going from egg table to 3 egg outdoor kitchen. Looking for advice

i built a simple table for my large some years ago. I since added a second large and a small and want to make an outdoor kitchen and ditch the table.

My question is, unlike my table where the egg is dropped in a hole in the top of the table I’m thinking about just using cutouts in my build where the eggs will sit without any side support should it rock around. I’m considering setting them on 3 fire bricks or aftermarket ceramic feet like the ones that used to ship with the bge. OR because I’m concerned about the thing being top heavy with the lid open, I’ve considered using an egg nest with the casters removed. The table nest doesn’t look any sturdier then the egg sitting on a few fire bricks.

I use a nest for my small and it’s pretty sturdy but it’s awfully low for my liking. That’s when I started thinking about just using the nest without the wheels in my build and setting it on an elevated shelf basically in my kitchen build. I could do this for all 3 of my eggs (light bulb turning on over my head).

Anyhow, I been on this fourm for a long time and enjoy the experiences people share on here. Any suggestions? I love my eggs and I think if I tipped one over I would be heart broken seeing how expensive these things are.

I don't have enough time to smoke them all in one day. Any issue with me smoking for 6 or so hours one day, wrapping them and smoking the rest of the way the next day? Can I leave in a cooler over night or should I put back in the fridge?

Thanks,

RCD

New XL Egg and Building my own table

$

So I have been browsing for a while trying to decide if I was finally going to go about getting myself an egg.  I have only been cooking on a gasser all my life so this will be a whole new world for me.  I mainly bought it for doing low and slow smoking and also making pizzas eventually.  From reading on here I am sure I will expand to doing a lot more over time.

What pushed me over the edge was getting what seemed like a good deal on an XL.  Had a promotional coupon to a local store that they allowed to be used on an Egg and then also ran a 'tax free' sale where they just deducted the tax amount from your purchase price.  So my XL Egg out the door was $990.  Then all my accessories were tax free as well.    So far just picked up the table best, conveggtor, flameboss300, ash tool, ash pan, and the XL table cover as I am building my own table to the BGE dimension size.

I didn't want to buy the stand or buy a table through BGE.  I knew I wanted to save a bit of money and build my own.  I always end up over doing these projects but hey that is half the fun of doing them.

I spent probably a good two weeks searching the internet and here for table builds that I liked and wanted to follow.  I ended up finding about four total that I took some of each into my build. (GT_Egg, Toxarch, jimithing, marainwa)  I then drew up some of my own plans and got started.  Please ignore some of the dimensioning that is off when I snapped these pics of the plans as I was still working them out.

Decided to build it all out of cedar.  Going to leave it unfinished as I want it to naturally grey over time.

With the weight of the XL I wanted to beef the shelf up a bit so made the shelf out of a 4x4 frame as well.  It is all glued and screwed together.

Ripped down some 2x4 by 7/8 so I could recess the floor.

Finished last night with a rolling frame.

If anyone wants anymore detail on the build it can be found here.
